Holiday Leave....

Before I had Baby Moo, I underestimated the job description of being a Mama. I thought it would be like a stroll in the park.

I remember being 40 weeks pregnant, just about to pop and all my Mama friends telling me to soak up the last few days of being 'ME'- being able to go the movies, go for coffee, and able to have a bath without the guilt of knowing that something needs to be done.

And I also rememeber vivdly thinking to myself - 'My life will be blessed once we have children. I can't even begin to imagine feeling like that!'

How wrong was I?

Being a Mama is the MOST important, demanding, rewarding JOB I have ever had - and as I have said before - it's a life-long career.

Never once did I imagine the job of being a Mama to have such a huge job description. I liken it to being somewhat an 'Artist'. It is like the doctor hands you a blank canvas and says 'PAINT IT'.....and that is your child. Your child will be as colourful, as beautiful, as happy, as positive, as creative and as imaginative as YOU want it to be.

Along with that responsibility - you also have the responsibility of your home life, your garden life, your outside friends and family life, and your love life. None of these things can be neglected at any time - otherwise the cracks start appearing and the foundations will start shaking.

Where am I heading with this you ask?

Well, with every job.....you are entitled to holiday leave! And that is exactly what I am doing!

I am putting in for a holiday. I am being SELFish and feel liberated for doing it. I have filled in my holiday leave request form and placed it with Mr H to be approved! Just a simple 2 days away with my sister, Mama and friends for my Sister's Hens Weekend. One weekend MOO-FREE is all I have requested.

Do I feel guilty? What kind of Mama would I be if I didn't? BUT - every Mama needs 'ME' time....without ME time there will be no MAMA or WIFEY (Thanks Sunny Mummy for making me realise this!).

Go on - go and fill in your leave form! Every Mama needs a holiday!

And while you fill it out...tell yourself..........I DESERVE IT!!

The one and only rule....

I have a case of the Mama Guilts. I have broken the one and only rule that Mr H set when Moo was born....and that was NO TV.

A few days ago, Moo was cranky - she didn't want to play on her mat, she didnt want to jump in her Jolly Jumper, she didnt want me to sing her songs, and she didn't want to swing in her swing.

So, as I was just about to pull my hair out - I put her in her seat and sat her in front of ABC2 Kids.....and she loved it. It was only for an hour to watch Thomas the Tank Engine and Playschool! She talks to them, blows raspberries - all while having a lovely smile on her face and plays with her feet! When they sing - she makes all these noises! Moo LOVES Playschool!!

So, as honesty is my thing - I rang Mr H who was working hard out in the paddock and told him what I had done and told him how much Moo loved it - all in the one sentence. It appears that Moo has weakened her daddy with her charm because the reply I received was....'As long as she is happy'.

But then the Mama guilt set in (It is so evil)....I find that since Macie is hearing impaired - I always think that we have to do things doubly as hard so she is 2 steps ahead. I thought that I should be singing, dancing, reading books and doing the crafty thing instead of putting her in front of the TV. But then I thought - I am only human - she is only a kid - and it's only an hour!

So I have included Playschool in Macie's routine - I see it as entertaining and education and it also gives her "MOO TIME". I crave 'Me Time' so I figure that she needs 'Moo Time'. I wonder why I feel like I have to justify my decision...

Do any other Mamas feel like this??

Guilty as charged.....

I had a moment today where I was frightened, scared, and worried sick. And then the guilt set in. You would NEVER believed what happened.....

While Moo was sleeping - I decided to get creative and make her a set of bunny ears and a little tail to take a photo for our parents as an Easter pressie from Moo. I finished my project, Macie woke up and I tried it on her while Mr H held her. All of a sudden she let out a cry and we laughed - just thinking that she was hating us for dressing her up!

Then we realised her eyes were tearing up, and dramatically her face was becoming covered in a nasty red rash. I mean literally in seconds - the rash was getting worse and her eye was constantly weeping. We nearly had the hospital number dialled in our phone when I let my instinct kick in - and called my Mama instead. She told us to get her in the bath straight away and put a dash of milk in her eye........before I could hang up the phone - Mr H had the bath running...

So we did what Dr Mama said - and the eye stopped weeping and her rash eventually cleared up within the hour. We worked out that the glue wasnt 100% dry and must had caused an allergic reaction.......and it happened that quickly......within seconds.

As she happily played in the bath - I just sat there admiring her while keeping a washer over her forehead - and found myself repeating 'I am so sorry, I am so sorry - I didn't mean to. I would never intentionally hurt you' and she would just smile at me and blow me a raspberry as if to say 'It's OK Mummy - I am all OK now!'.

So - I am guilty as charged. Mr H has politely asked if I could just go and buy some little bunny ears from a cheap shop instead of making more. He admitted that it scared the absolute life out of him - and he was about 5 seconds from putting her in the car and rushing her to town.

I feel so guilty for scaring him, for hurting my baby - all for lousy photo as an Easter Bunny.

It's a Mama thing - and only other Mama's would be able to relate just how guilt can take over.....even with the smallest things.
